The Serum Institute of India (SII) has urged the Union Ministry of Health to allow the company to export the Covovax vaccine. The company has also urged CDSCO.
In an application submitted to the Ministry of Health by the Serum Institute of India, it said that if the export of Covovax vaccine was not approved, 10 million doses of it would have failed by December 2021. Vaccines are needed to prevent corona infection. So it should not be wasted. The Serum Institute has also received an order to purchase one crore doses, the company said. The company's application to the Ministry of Health said that even if the Covovax vaccine was exported from India, it would not affect the supply of corona vaccine in India. The country has adequate stocks of Covishield vaccine of Serum Institute. There will be no shortage of it. Therefore, the government has been asked to issue a certificate of innocence to the company for the export of Covovax vaccine.
The Serum Institute of India has also sought permission for emergency use of the Covovax vaccine in India. But so far no decision has been taken by the CDSCO. However, emergency use of the Covovax vaccine is permitted in Indonesia. The company has a large stock of Covovax vaccine. However, if it is not used, the company fears that 1 crore doses will be wasted by the end of December.
