While MW has physical courage (he's a combat veteran), lofty corporate settings are not his milieu. On the other hand, Davis is perfectly at ease in corporate settings and knows just what to say to get a message across. It appears that his extemporaneous remarks were not endorsed by the company and people should ask themselves why the company would disapprove. Again, Davis would not say anything that would get him or the company in legal trouble. However, it's my view that MW would have preferred that (a) nothing be said beyond the four corners of attorney-approved remarks (Davis is an attorney (and something of a cowboy if observers took correct stock of him) and a flamboyant, confident one who has the support of the HFs (and in that sense is on equal footing with MW) and might not want to feel constrained by a CPA with no pedigree) or (b) that there be no shareholders' meeting at all.
I don't know about the rest of you, but to me it looks like MW can't control Davis and I've heard that MW likes to be in control and can be quite disagreeable when crossed. FWIW, I'm grateful for the assessment of Davis (his 'in your face' and confident swagger are revealing both as to him and what may be going on behind the scenes) as that and his statement that the company had rejected a lot of proposed deals were the most interesting pieces of information about the day's events. The latter is great news.
Mya guess 8 Ball or whatever: The deal is in the works e.g. 90%. They know they will go for it, merger partner knows too. Possible indicator huge accumulation/share buys. But its e.g. too early to be announced. MW is taking care not to say something - not to crush rules. Proceeds accroding the SEC rules (?). Gene already chose his seat away from the BOD - symbolic - I am separate of the BOD. He jumps in as they recognized unhappiness of sharholders. It will take some more months to announce something ... Happy end ...
