Nordic Semiconductor today announces that Thalwil, Switzerland-based u-blox (SIX:UBXN) has selected Nordic's nRF52832 Bluetooth® Smart System-on-Chip (SoC) for its NINA-B1 Series stand-alone modules.

The compact NINA-B1 ultra low power Bluetooth Smart modules are designed for space-constrained applications employing coin cell batteries. The modules reduce development time by providing a complete wireless solution and are tailored for OEMs who wish to develop their own application software, and/or add Bluetooth services to the Bluetooth Smart stack using the ARM® mbed Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Alternatively, the NINA-B1 can be ordered with incorporated firmware enabling the u-blox Serial Port Service to replace serial cables or access UART devices using Bluetooth Smart. The modules also allow developers to seamlessly connect their wireless devices to both iOS and Android Bluetooth Smart Ready units such as tablets and smartphones.

The professional grade modules are offered in either a 10 x10.6 x 1.4 mm (NINA-B111), or 10 x 14 x 3 mm (NINA-B112) form factor, making them suitable for a wide range of space-constrained applications in segments such as healthcare, asset tracking, connected cities, home automation, smart energy, manufacturing, and telematics. The NINA-B1 module features variants with PCB-mounted antenna or for use with an external antenna, allowing smaller designs.

The modules provide a generous set of general-purpose input/outputs (GPIOs), as well as SPI, I2C, UART, and I2S interfaces together with analog inputs. Additional sensors, for example accelerometers and temperature sensors, can be connected directly to the module.

The NINA-B1 has a maximum output power of 7dBm and enables different power saving modes and configurations. Different sections of the module can be powered off when not needed, and complex wake-up events can be generated from different external and internal inputs.

The nRF52 Series is Nordic Semiconductor's sixth generation of ultra low power (ULP) wireless connectivity solutions. The nRF52832 features a 64 MHz, 32-bit ARM Cortex™-M4F CPU which delivers up to 60 percent more generic processing power, offering 10 times the Floating Point performance and twice the Digital Signal Processing (DSP) performance compared to competing solutions. The 2.4 GHz multiprotocol radio offers Bluetooth Smart (fully compatible with Bluetooth Version 4.2 (v4.2)) support with -96 dB RX sensitivity and 5.5 mA peak RX/TX currents. The nRF52832 also features 512 kB Flash memory and 64 kB RAM, a fully-automatic power management system that reduces power consumption by up to 80 percent compared with the nRF51 Series, on-chip analog and digital peripherals for glueless interfacing to external components, and an NFC™ tag for consumer-friendly Touch-to-Pair.

'In addition to allowing our customers to design their own application code and run it on the modules, we have developed our own advanced serial port service firmware for the modules and plan to add support for future applications including IPv6,' says Pelle Svensson, u-blox Product Marketing Manager, Short Range.

'Low power, the powerful microprocessor, large Flash size, and Bluetooth v4.2 compliance were the main drivers behind the decision to select Nordic's nRF52832 SoC for the NINA-B1 modules.'

Nordic Semiconductor

P/S (TTM) = 4.83

P/B = 8.25

No paga dividendo.

Re: Nordic Semiconductor

Que diferencia vés por fundamentales? No he mirado DIalog.

Saludos

Re: Nordic Semiconductor

An open beacon format from Google, Eddystone-EID is designed to protect user privacy and security in sensitive applications by preventing unauthorized access and guarding against various potential types of malicious attack. Wireless connectivity chip maker Nordic Semiconductor has released a software development kit (SDK) for the format.

As the beacon market grows so, says Nordic, does the need to protect user privacy and security. Google has announced a more secure version of its Eddystone beacon format - Eddystone-EID - and Nordic Semiconductor (Oslo, norway) announced that it has launched a full software development kit (SDK) plus supporting tools.

Like Eddystone, Eddystone-EID is capable of working across Android and iOS devices but is now designed to protect user privacy and security in sensitive applications by broadcasting secure beacon signals, including website address URLs, using what's termed a 'rotating ephemeral identifier'. This will allow Eddystone-EID beacon manufacturers to manage access to beacons to avoid unpermitted access, and guard against various potential types of malicious attack to which beacons can be prone including spoofing, malicious asset tracking, and replay attacks.

The Nordic Semiconductor 'nRF5 SDK for Eddystone' allows the immediate development of Eddystone-EID beacons to provide real-world context to users in proximity-based beacon applications. The Nordic nRF5 SDK for Eddystone also features a GATT configuration that allows Eddystone beacons to be configured from a smartphone.

The SDK is designed for Nordic's latest nRF52832 / nRF52 Series Bluetooth Smart Systems-on-Chips (SoCs). A future upgrade will also allow existing Nordic nRF51 Series or nRF52832-based Eddystone beacons to be updated to the latest Eddystone-EID secure capabilities via a straightforward over-the-air firmware update.

"Beacons are a core building block of the Internet of Things and the wider trend towards making everyday objects smart," comments Nordic Semiconductor Technical Product Manager, Reidar Martin Svendsen. "Security and privacy has been a concern with today's beacon formats. The new Eddystone-EID opens up new possibilities to use beacons in sensitive applications where the data obtained could be used maliciously.

"In addition, the new ability of the Eddystone beacon format to broadcast URLs opens up endless opportunities. A simple example would be giving advertising posters the ability to broadcast a relevant web address to smartphones
