UPDATE 1-Torch River finds rare elements at property; shares up
* Finds molybdenum, rare earths at Mount Copeland asset
* Shares more than double, hit 26-month high
Nov 2 (Reuters) - Canada's Torch River Resources Ltd
said it identified a number of strategic rare earth
elements and molybdenum at its British Columbia property,
doubling the tiny explorer's market value on Tuesday.
The find assumes significance as China -- the world's
biggest supplier of rare earth minerals -- has been choking
off shipments. [ID:nSGE69S09C]
China produces about 97 percent of the world's rare earths
-- a set of 17 minerals with magnetic, luminescent and other
properties used in a number of electronics, military and other
high-tech applications.

The company said the results of geochemical analysis
conducted at its Mount Copeland property, located near
Revelstoke in British Columbia, identified molybdenum,
yttrium, zirconium and other rare earth elements.
The Mount Copeland property comprises 1,318 hectares and
is located 25 kilometres northwest of Revelstoke.
Shares of companies such as Avalon Rare Metals ,
Great Western Minerals and Rare Element Resources
have shot up in recent months, as their resources
could possibly provide alternative supply of these minerals.
Shares of Calgary, Alberta-based Torch River were up 5
Canadian cents at 10 Canadian cents in afternoon trade on the
Toronto Venture Exchange.
The stock hit a high of 11.5 Canadian cents, a 26-month
peak, earlier in the day and saw highest trading volume on the
exchange.
